Propane Grills

Grilling with Propane Heat

Every portable propane grill tank cylinder has an expiration date of 12 years from original manufacturing date (by federal law). At the 12-year mark, cylinders must be tested and requalified, or disposed of.

Per regulations by the Department of Transportation, there are clear markings to help people know if their cylinders are qualified, safe for residential and recreational use.

Portable cylinders have several permanent markings on the cylinder body.

  • A date without a letter indicates the next requalification must be within 12 years.
  • The letter “S” following the date indicates the cylinder must be requalified within seven years of the marked date.
  • The letter “E” following the date indicates that requalification is required again within five years of the marked date.
  • No date? A date past one of the guidelines above? Replace this cylinder and get a new one.

Please note, our location is not a filling station but we can fill your grill tank if we are onsite to fill your larger tanks.
